Winter Boot Camps

Each December, the Chicago Mudcats offer Infielder, Pitcher and Catcher Boot Camps at the Rosemont Dome. Boot camps, which are offered twice a week for six specific dates, are 1.5 hours long and designed for both baseball and softball players at the youth level (10u-14u) and high school level (15u-18u). Players may sign up for single or multiple dates and can specialize in one camp or mix it up.

Participants do not need to be a part of the Mudcats’ travel program to sign-up. Boot camps are open to all players!

All parents are required to sign a medical and media waiver (see below) prior to participating in any Boot Camps. Players will not be allowed to participate without a completed waiver on file.

BOOT CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

Infielder Boot Camp

Infield play is key to a successful defensive game in baseball. The ability to field and throw accurately can often make the difference between winning and losing a game. To become a great infielder, a player must not only possess athletic ability and quickness, but also have a strong work ethic and the desire to continually improve.

This camp will help players develop, or further develop, the following important skills which determine great infielders: footwork on ground balls (forehand, backhand, run-through); judging hops and picking the right one; footwork & exchanges for turning double plays; throwing mechanics specific to infielder play; and taking relay throws from the outfield.

Pitcher Boot Camp

Pitchers have the most important job in baseball. They are the leaders on the field and need to be able to not only throw strikes, but also control the running game. To become a great pitcher a player must be able to replicate their delivery over and over each game. This camp will help players develop or further develop the following important skills which determine great pitchers: velocity development (throwing harder); repeatable mechanics/delivery capable of throwing strikes; holding runners on base, pick-off moves, and signs from the catcher; fielding the position on bunts and comebackers; and long toss & conditioning.

Catcher Boot Camp

Catchers have the hardest job in baseball. Catchers must be able to frame pitches, block balls in the dirt, throw runners out as they are stealing, and communicate to their defense. To become a great catcher you need to be very tough and have a strong work ethic.
