Beyond addressing the sports needs of our community, the Chicago Mudcats Sport and Social Club is dedicated to addressing our community’s social needs. As part of this mandate, the Chicago Mudcats requires that our players adhere to this ideal by being active citizens and providing service to others. It is our goal to produce players who are capable of competing at the highest levels, whether it be in sports, education, or service.
All Chicago Mudcat players are required to conduct a minimum of five service hours per season. Hours are tracked by coaching staff and players not meeting the required minimum may not be considered for a roster spot the following season. Mudcats have long-standing relationships with two non-profit organizations in the area - Roberto’s Kids & Bernie’s Book Bank - and developed two new partnerships during the 2018 season with Horner Park’s Challenger Baseball League & the Albany Park Food Pantry, an agent of the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Our Service Partners
The Mudcats have partnered with Bernie’s Book Bank since 2011, collecting and donating more than 10,000 books to this not-for-profit that facilitates the collection, processing and redistribution of new and gently used children's books to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers and school-age children throughout Chicagoland. In addition to collecting and donating books, Mudcat families travel to Bernie’s Distribution Center in Lake Bluff, Illinois bi-annually to volunteer at Bernie’s book distribution facility. The Mudcats have partnered with Roberto’s Kids since 2010, donating countless bags of used uniforms, sports apparel, and sports equipment destined for players in need in third-world countries. These donations provide young boys and girls with the opportunity to play baseball while simultaneously bringing families together to build and develop a strong sense of community. |The Mudcats initiated a partnership with the Illinois Little League Challenger Baseball Division during the 2018 season. The Challenger Division provides opportunities for boys and girls with physical and developmental challenges to enjoy the benefits of Little League participation. Mudcat players volunteer during the spring/summer be baseball buddies to boys and girls with physical and mental challenges. As buddies, our players help kids ages 4-18 bat, field, run the bases, stay safe on the field, and learn the fundamentals of the game. The goal of the program is to increase Challenger participant’s baseball knowledge and skills and teach them to enjoy the game that all of our players love.|
|In the fall of 2017, the Mudcats initiated a partnership with the Albany Park Food Pantry located in our neighborhood. The Albany Park Food Pantry, one of 700 agents of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, provides food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. Every fall, the Mudcats hold a month-long Food Drive, driven entirely by our players, and all donations collected will be distributed, along with handmade cards designed by our players, to the Albany Park Food Pantry prior to Thanksgiving.
